[Background]
... okay, there is like no information given whatsoever about Flay's past before the events of the game. So we don't know a damn thing about his parents or his upbringing or why the Hell he was accepted into Al-Revis, because for certain the Vice Principal doesn't like him. All we know in the beginning of the game is that Flay's a second year at the Academy, whose friends all graduated the past year; as a result, he was the only one left in his workshop, so he shanghai'd Nikki, Vayne, and Jess into joining him since they're fresh meat. And when Vayne enters his third term... Flay was held back. Oopsies.

Flay... doesn't play a majorly important part in the overall story aside from prodding the main party to do stuff, and doesn't actually become a playable character until Chapter 4. Though, in the beginning it shows that by this time, Flay hasn't even contracted with a Mana yet; he's been attempting to with the Mana of Gold, but the hardass was being particularly difficult to deal with. Flay finally gets his Mana though. In Chapter 5 in Vayne's second year, Flay hijacks another party member, Anna, and etc etc etc.

So, during his Character Quest, Flay set up a vicious crime that he made Vayne solve, showcasing that Vayne had the potential to become a passionate hero and Defender of Justice! (or Justice Heroes; the localization likes to switch between those two terms.) Then he "accidentally" lets Vayne figure out that Flay, too, is a hero! Taking Vayne as his partner as a Defender of Justice, Flay decided to train Vayne in the ways of superherohood!

However, as the months passed by, Vayne seemed to have caught up to Flay... so Flay was forced to train harder. However, as an oversight, the two have become far too strong; they've already eliminated all of the evil in the world?! Panicking at the thought of the Justice Heroes coming to an end, Flay quickly began his preparations...!

Flay took up the mantle of the Flavor of Evil, the head of an evil syndicate which Vayne must defeat! ... as to why the Hell he thinks this is a good idea only makes sense to him, but Vayne played along... and even after graduation, Flay managed to take over half of the world before Vayne managed to have another showdown with him. Well, something has to be said about putting your mind to something...

... yeah. Because in a few years he's going to be a teacher at Al-Revis Academy and have a secret underground layer for his evil syndicate in Mana Khemia 2.

[Personality]
Flay... really isn't a deep character. What you see is what you get, really. Flay is loud, rambunctious, and is the type to act before he thinks... then again, even when he thinks there isn't much deliberation. Flay is an extremely simple person and it's still a mystery as to why he became an alchemist. He's very sociable, but he wears his heart on his sleeve in the sense that if he likes you, he'll be all in your face about it... and if he doesn't like you, he'll also be all up in your face about it.

His attention span isn't much better. He's not very responsible, rather leaving all of the responbility to others; an example of this is right at the beginning of the game. When it was his responsibility to synthesize the Nicro Cloth, he brushes it off on his new recruits... only showing up at the last minute to give them the recipe for it as well as telling them where to find the final ingredient. This is also reflected in how he works as a character in the work shop; he is terrible at gathering materials, since he'd most likely get distracted and wander off on his own. However, he can become rather focused when given something to do such as forging metals and weapons and armor. He's certainly got the brawn for it.

The guy's definitely got a sense of right and wrong; he just showcases it in the most bizarre of ways. It could be said he became a Defender of Justice borne from his passion for justice, but... more likely than not it was something to do when he was bored. This is further supported by the fact that once he and Vayne rid the campus of all evil, he becomes fearful that their days will become boring since without evil, what defines good? So, in order to remedy this, Flay himself becomes the evil for Vayne to fight against... all while having a blast. It makes sense in a twisted kind of way.

Always with a one track mind, and never afraid to speak it or act on it, Flay is certainly an interesting individual. Very few things actually faze him. It could be considered a strength... if you stretch your imagination.

[Specialties/Abilities]
Flay is an Alchemist, duh. His Mana is the Mana of Gold, which... doesn't really mean anything, really, than the fact that he can synthesize things. Flay doesn't gather materials very well (since he'd rather leave everyone else to do it; he's super ADHD as well), but he's a master at synthesizing metals and weapons in general! He also has the Cooperative Synthesis Cards which enable him to raise an item's ether level, should you be so inclined to want a high ether level.

Other than that, considering Mana Khemia is a RPG and Flay is a playable character, Flay is a beast when it comes to dealing damage on the battlefield. He's easily the biggest damage dealer in the entire game, an that's what his skills are based on. His only downside is that he's a bit slow.

Whether or not this can be considered a special ability or not is up to debate, but he can wear a mask and be the head of an evil syndicate.

[Affection] Flay's all for bro-fisting his comrades! He's ever shown in canon having any romantic inclinations, though, so I have no idea how he'd react to that sort of thing.
[Fighting] Flay is arguably the biggest source of damage output in the game of Mana Khemia. You're in for a tough fight should you decide to fight him.

Flay's Abilities
Armor Break - Attack support. Single enemy, single hit, defense down.
Double Counter - Defense support. 100% counter chance.
Maximum Drill - Finishing Burst. Hits six times. Think of it like a Limit Break.
Starshot - Time skill. Set off two shurikens from your machine blade. Each hits a single enemy for five hits.
Big Impact - Hits a single enemy for three hits.
Buster Star - A powered up Starshot. Places three shuriken from your machine blade, each hitting seven times.
Drill Twist - Hits a single enemy for five hits, and lowers their defensive caabilities.
Raiden Charge - Raises own attack power as well as adds the lightning element to attacks.
Mega Screw - Double-up skill. Hits a single enemy two times with knockback.
Hyper Screw - A powered up Mega Screw. Hits a single enemy five times with knockback.
Screw Driver - Hits six times with knockback in a small area.
